Hello
I’m an accomplished writer, editor, and consultant with a lifelong love for language and a passion for people and organizations working to build a better world. I favor creative, friendly, clear language with a touch of wit when appropriate. You can see some of my work on the pages that follow.
Here are some projects I’m particulary proud of:
• At KQED, Northern California’s renowned public media station, I led a major rebranding project alongside senior management. I created a new mission statement; tagline; brand story; guidelines; and a unique analog “brandout” for staff. I also created annual reports, which were extremely well received by staff, the board, and the community.
• At the Exporatorium, a groundbreaking science and art museum, I wrote a vision statement that’s still widely used years later. It appeared in a four-color full-page ad in The New York Times.
• As editorial director for the Exploratorium’s Exhibits and Media Studio, I wrote the museum’s first Design and Communications Principles. I also created an interactive, inclusive-language style guide for staff. In other editorial leadership roles at the museum, I wrote articles for award-winning apps and websites, and reinvented the museum’s magazine.
• I wrote stories for Color Uncovered, an Exploratorium iPad app, which was downloaded more than 1 million times and shot up to the number one spot in the Apple App Store Free Education category.
• I conceived of and was the copywriter on several successful ad campaigns for both KQED and the Exploratorium.
• I was honored to interview luminaries in the arts and podcasting, including Maestro Michael Tilson Thomas and Podcast Producer Glynn Washington (Snap Judgment and Spooked).
• I conceived of and developed the first augmented-reality museum magazine cover in the United States.
• I launched and marketed a successful food business based on an old family recipe, teaching myself how to develop new recipes, use equipment in a professional bakery, and design packaging. My product was sold in a store, at events, and directly to a large group of devoted customers.
• I wrote about Letchworth Village, a former psychiatric hospital in New York, for Nyack News & Views.
Board Affiliations
I have big love for and interest in the arts and culture. I serve on the boards of Rivertown Film and the Phoenix Theatre Ensemble, and on the advisory board of the Borscht Belt Museum, all in New York.
